Impact stories of philanthropy
The impact of philanthropy is seen in the lives of those who receive care from our health providers, the discoveries our researchers make, and the numerous communities our initiatives reach.
As one of the largest medical schools in the nation, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is a leader in educating the next generation of physicians and pursuing discoveries that address common and complex medical conditions.
Our students learn from a rigorous curriculum emphasizing ethics, quality of care, and safety, fully preparing graduates to provide outstanding patient-centered care and conduct innovative research.
Philanthropy makes a profound difference at McGovern Medical School. It brings lifesaving research to fruition, gives medical students opportunities they otherwise would not have, and helps us recruit some of the most renowned medical experts in the country to join our faculty.
Our fundraising priorities reflect our commitment to our students, faculty, and the patients they serve.
In 2015, the John P. McGovern Foundation made a historic commitment to UTHealth Houston, marking the largest contribution in the university’s history. This transformative gift enriches the academic environment, provides scholarships to support students, and fuels discovery and innovation. In honor of their generosity, the medical school was renamed John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
