The Office of Development advances the mission of UTHealth Houston by seeking and securing philanthropic support for its programs in service to students and society. The office comprises four giving programs - Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Major and Principal Gifts, and Gift Planning.


Current Positions

  • Director of Development - UTHealth Houston is seeking a Director of Development develop strategy and solicits major gifts from individuals and occasionally from firms, corporations, and foundations. Identifies, cultivates, and manages a large pool of prospective donors and qualifies leads. 
  • Associate Director of Digital and Development Communications - UTHealth Houston is seeking an Associate Director of Digital and Development Communications to join our high-performing Development Communications team. The Associate Director plays a key role in advancing the university’s mission by leading digital communications that support fundraising and constituent engagement through strategic, data-informed storytelling, with an emphasis on creating a cohesive digital and print communications ecosystem. This role provides leadership for digital strategy and execution across core channels, ensuring content is engaging, effective, and aligned with institutional priorities and brand standards. In this role, you will lead digital communications that engage a wide range of audiences, including community members, patients, faculty and staff, alumni, and current and prospective donors across all levels of giving. You will collaborate with writers to shape messaging and storytelling and provide strategic oversight to ensure communications across digital, video, photography, and print channels are aligned and effective.
  • Donor Communications Writer in Development - UTHealth Houston is seeking a skilled Donor Communications Writer to join our high-performing Development Communications team. The Donor Communications Writer plays a key role in advancing the university’s mission through persuasive writing and storytelling that drives philanthropic engagement and demonstrates the impact of donors’ generosity. Reporting to the Director of Donor Communications and working within the Development Communications team led by the Senior Director of Development Communications, the Donor Communications Writer produces a wide range of written communications that support fundraising and alumni engagement across UTHealth Houston’s seven schools. In this role, you will write targeted annual giving appeals, alumni and event communications, presidential acknowledgements, impact stories, and other donor-facing materials, with occasional support for major gift proposals and reports. Working closely with development colleagues, faculty, and staff, you will translate complex academic, clinical, and research initiatives into clear, compelling narratives and conduct interviews with external constituents, including patients, donors, and alumni.
  • University Graphic Designer in Public Affairs - UTHealth Houston’s Office of Public Affairs is seeking a graphic designer to perform and coordinate graphic design functions for projects with university-wide impact. The role supports a wide range of visual work, including marketing collateral, digital creative, and print work. Deliverables include social media visuals, animations, publications, newsletters, reports, logos, signage, brand assets, and more. Responsibilities include supporting the brand standards, preparing large annual publications, organizing design assets, and collaborating with our full branding and creative services team. Experience working within academic systems and/or large organizations is a plus. We are looking for a designer who brings strong creative skills, works in a thoughtful and organized way, collaborates well with our team and internal partners, and contributes new ideas.
  • Executive Director, Alumni Engagement - The Executive Director, Alumni Engagement, as a member of the Development and Public Affairs leadership team, provides vision, leadership, and oversight of a comprehensive, centrally coordinated, university-wide alumni engagement program. This role leads the development of a cohesive engagement strategy across UTHealth Houston's seven academic schools and programs, advancing lifelong relationships with alumni, parents/family, and students. Serving as the university's senior alumni engagement expert, the Executive Director partners with school leadership, faculty, and staff to align engagement initiatives with institutional priorities and philanthropic goals. This position builds and applies data-informed engagement metrics to strengthen the alumni donor pipeline and expand participation through integrated communication, volunteerism, experiential learning and philanthropy.
  • Media Relations Specialist in Public Affairs - UTHealth Houston is looking for a multifaceted external communications, media relations pro, and public relations expert who can pitch compelling stories of medical and science innovations, write articles using SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and stay on top of breaking health care news. This person is responsible for promoting the university's strategic priorities and protecting the university's brand by developing and executing media and public relations to inform and engage external and internal audiences. This role is vital to supporting the university's three-part mission of education, research, and patient care. The role requires strong communication, collaboration, writing, news judgment, and creative idea skills. It also requires someone who can do multiple things, including managing content, as they approach public and media relations at various levels. We prefer candidates with public relations backgrounds and video skills who can meet tight deadlines.
  • University Communication Specialist in Public Affairs - UTHealth Houston is looking for a University Communication Specialist to join our Public Affairs team. This role is integral to ensuring that faculty, staff, administrators, trainees, and students across all seven schools receive timely, accurate, and engaging campus communications that inform, inspire, promote safety, and support compliance with university policies and procedures. The University Communication Specialist will provide a broad range of communications for Houston’s Health University, with a strong emphasis on writing. Responsibilities include developing original content, editing to AP style and university editorial and brand standards, planning and coordinating communication projects, and supporting health education and promotional initiatives. Strong news judgment and a keen understanding of what makes a story compelling to a wide audience are essential.
