The mission of the Occupational Safety and Fire Prevention (OSFP) Program is to help provide a safe and healthy environment for learning and working for all UTHealth Houston faculty, employees, students, medical residents and visitors. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) performs routine surveillance of all UTHealth Houston buildings and grounds to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control hazards and to ensure compliance with fire and life safety code requirements. Through scheduled testing and proactive evaluation, OSFP strives to minimize the incidence of accidents and injuries across our campus. Simply put, we exist to help people go home as healthy and safe as when they arrive on our campus each day. .

15 Second Delayed Egress door
A 15 second delayed egress door is a door that has a magnetic device that will keep a door locked for 15 seconds before it will allow the door to open. Delayed egress doors are installed primarily for security. They prevent a door from being opened immediately from the inside. This type of device is used on campus to prevent theft. They are in most of the buildings on campus, are tested annually by EH&S, and they are code compliant. For more information on the operation on these doors please watch the video below. If you have any questions please contact Environmental Health and Safety at 713-500-8100.

Throughout UTHealth there are two different types of emergency pull stations, one colored red and one blue. The difference between these two devices goes beyond their color. The most common device is the red pull station, used to alert building occupants and the Houston Fire Department (HFD) in the event of a fire. The blue pull station, perhaps less well known, is used to alert the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) when a situation requires police intervention. [Continue reading]
