The Environmental Protection Program (EPP) is a unique component of the Environmental Health & Safety Department that comprehensively evaluates, monitors, and controls environmental releases in the form of air, water, hazardous waste, and assets, and ensures releases to the environment are safe, compliant, and cost effective.

The Environmental Protection Program (EPP) utilizes a systematic approach to manage hazardous material disposal, as well as environmental aspects related to the products and services of UTHealth Houston. In this process we strive to raise awareness of environmental impacts and communicate environmental issues and standards of importance to the faculty, staff, students, and clinicians throughout the UTHealth Houston community.

We support UTHealth Houston's mission and vision of excellence in education, research, and service in the development and implementation of environmental management programs and systems designed to minimize environmental risks and enhance performance and compliance.

In order to achieve this mission, we strive to utilize cost effective waste disposal techniques and reduce environmental impacts whenever possible. We utilize UT System wide contracts, develop effective programs for specific and general operations; and monitor program effectiveness to provide for continuous improvement.

Our success is measured by customer feedback and our ability to create awareness among faculty, staff, and students to integrate environmental considerations into the research, educational, and service mission of the University.

Recycling Toner Cartriges

Printer toner cartridges can be recycled at UTHealth Houston through a mail back program managed by EHS. Although toner cartridges are not a regulated hazardous waste, EHS strives to divert waste from the landfill whenever possible. Please take toner cartridges designated for recycling down to the identified location in your building and place in the cardboard box labelled “Toner Recycling”. Remove the toner cartridges from their original packaging (e.g. plastic wrap, shipping box) prior to placing it in this box. If you have any questions or comments, or if the Toner Recycling box is full, please contact EHS at 713 500 8100 or email us at [email protected].

Current Toner Cartridge Recycling Locations:
