Executive Vice President, Chief Business Affairs and Strategy Officer, UTHealth Houston

Michael Patriarca, MBA, MS, FACHE, serves as executive vice president and chief business affairs and strategy officer for UTHealth Houston. In this role, he works closely with the university’s president, deans, and senior leaders to ensure institutional priorities are translated into coordinated action across the enterprise.

He oversees university-wide strategy and planning, financial stewardship, operations, facilities and infrastructure, information technology, data and analytics, and institutional transformation. A central focus of his work is leading the development and execution of a comprehensive 10-year strategic plan that aligns UTHealth Houston’s missions and positions the university for sustained impact locally, across Texas, and nationally.

Patriarca brings extensive experience in academic medicine and health system leadership, spanning strategy, finance, operations, and analytics. He previously served as vice president and chief business officer for Tulane Medicine, where he led enterprise strategic planning, strengthened financial and operational alignment, advanced digital and data capabilities, and supported complex health system partnerships.

He has also held leadership roles across The University of Texas System, including vice president for business affairs and chief operating officer for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, as well as executive vice dean for finance and administration. Earlier in his career, he held roles at UT Southwestern Medical Center and The University of Texas Medical Branch.

Patriarca earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Texas A&M University, his Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston–Clear Lake, and his Master of Science in business analytics from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
