Research

At UTHealth, Dr. Sidra Tabassum’s research focuses on understanding and repairing the injured brain following neurovascular events such as subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and ischemic stroke. Her work investigates the mechanisms of endothelial and mitochondrial dysfunction in post-injury brain repair, using preclinical mouse models and human samples. She employs a multidisciplinary approach combining immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology, histological assessments, and behavioral testing to study neuronal and glial responses after injury. The long-term goal of her research is to develop innovative, translational therapies—such as miRNA-based interventions —to promote functional recovery and repair in the injured brain.
