Four faculty, representing three UTHealth Houston schools, are among the inductees into the 2023 class of The University of Texas Kenneth I. Shine, MD, Academy of Health Science Education. 

The honor is bestowed annually to outstanding faculty from across UT System’s academic health institutions. They will be formally inducted with a ceremony on March 4.

When UTHealth Houston staff, faculty, or students need to call the IT Solution Center — also known as the “Help Desk” — the highly skilled people who answer those calls do not work for a vendor or happen to be in another country. They are all full-time UTHealth Houston employees who are dedicated call responders, working together to get computers or mobile devices up and running again.

In a region defined by hurricanes and severe weather, one storm stands out in its devastating impact on the Texas Medical Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth).

Tropical Storm Allison dropped more than 40 inches of rain on Houston in 2001, causing widespread flooding and severe consequences. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center were among the hardest-hit medical institutions.
