Event Description
In this live course, Paula Cuccaro, PhD, and Efrat K. Gabay, MPH, will cover common vaccine questions and concerns; vaccine side effects and management; vaccine exemptions; and communication strategies to address vaccine hesitancy. You will have the opportunity to test your knowledge throughout the course. 1.0 DSHS-Certified Hours for CHWs and CHWIs. 0.5 Knowledge Base on Specific Health Issues. 0.5 Communication Skills.

Paula Cuccaro, PhD
Associate Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences

Paula Cuccaro, PhD, is an associate professor of health promotion and behavioral sciences and a researcher at the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute and the Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. Cuccaro is a developmental scientist with nearly 30 years of experience in public health research and implementation. Her expertise includes health communication, reducing vaccine hesitancy, education and training for community health workers and school nurses, and cancer prevention and control among medically underserved populations. Cuccaro’s work includes the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of interventions in varied settings to reduce health disparities. Research settings include urban and rural communities, as well as schools. She is the 2021 recipient of the UTHealth School of Public Health Award for Excellence in Community Service and serves as an associate director of community engagement at the Texas Prevention Research Center.

Efrat K. Gabay, MPH
Senior Project Manager

Efrat Gabay, MPH, is a senior project manager at the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute and the Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. She has extensive experience in the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of public health intervention programs, as well as vaccination and health education messaging and communication. Gabay has coordinated several research and curriculum development projects since 2010 at UTHealth Houston with a primary focus on school- and clinic-based HPV vaccination uptake, cancer prevention, vaccine-related provider and school nurse education, and school health. She has served as a local, state, and national speaker. She is a member of the Texas HPV Coalition and has served as a content expert for the American Cancer Society and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
