SBMI Alum John Frenzel, MD, MS, Appointed Chief Medical Information Officer at MD Anderson

One of the school’s distinguished graduates, John Frenzel, MD, MS, was appointed this week to the newly created position of Chief Medical Information Officer at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. John will oversee the clinical information technology areas including EHR development, implementation, and support; clinical applications and support; and clinical analytics and informatics. 

Frenzel graduated from SBMI in 2002 with a master’s degree in Health Informatics. His master’s thesis is titled “Data security issues arising from integration of wireless access into healthcare networks”. Prior to his informatics degree, Frenzel earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biology from Emory University and a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Frenzel is a professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at MD Anderson. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of Biomedical Information at the school.
