School of Biomedical Informatics

Home

Located within the Texas Medical Center, the school provides a unique collaborative research and learning environment in biomedical informatics. The school’s mission is interdisciplinary graduate education and research, bringing together the engineering, computer and biological sciences. The educational programs lead to Certificates in Health Informatics and Public Health Informatics, a Master's degree, or a Doctoral degree in Health Informatics.

The school’s important work will define the future of healthcare: researchers will have better tools to advance treatments and cures; doctors will have better diagnostics and ways to access information; and patients will have better access to personalized care…anywhere…anytime.

It's official! The school formerly known as The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston is now The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics at Houston (SBMI). Much has been accomplished under the former name, but the field has matured. The new name better reflects the school's leadership role in the global scientific community. SBMI remains committed to collaboration and entrepreneurial approaches to biomedical research and healthcare delivery.
