HI 6315 Advanced Electronic Health Records

(2 hours lecture/3 hours laboratory/week lecture/demonstration/discussion)

3 semester credit hours/meets part of advanced informatics component 

Prerequisites: HI 5313 and consent of instructor 

This course is designed to help students learn to analyze electronic health records as implemented within complex, multi-specialty healthcare organizations. The course will consist of a minimum of 6, 2-3 hour instructor-led field trips to local healthcare organizations that have functioning EHR systems in routine clinical use.  On the off-weeks (i.e., no scheduled field trip) the class will meet in-person for 2-3 hours to review what they learned at the previous site visit(s) and identify new ways to analyze these complex systems.
