Himali Saitwal, BHMS, MS
Himali Saitwal received her medical degree from University of Pune, India in year 2001. After her graduation, she worked as a Chief Medical Officer in Nandadeep Hospital, N. M. Wadia Hospital and Sanjeevan Hospital in Pune, where she handled emergencies in the respective Intensive Care Unit setups. In 2005, Himali joined her husband in the United States and briefly served as a volunteer in the Methodist Hospital in order to understand the healthcare system in the United States.
Himali joined University of Texas (UT) School of Biomedical Informatics in 2008 for her Masters in Health Informatics with special interests in Cognitive Informatics, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Terminology and Data standardization. Himali's initial research as a Research Assistant at UT was published in AMIA 2009 under the title of “Assessing Performance of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Using Cognitive Task Analysis” and she was selected as one of the Eight Finalists to present her work at the AMIA 2009 Student Paper Competition.
Himali worked as an Intern at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Summer 2009, where she got an opportunity to work on the planning, testing and workflow analysis of a large-scale CDS intervention for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) for Cerner EMR. During the final year of her graduate studies, Himali worked towards her Thesis on Terminology and Data Standardization of the prescription medication data collected from UT outpatient department and Laboratory data from Memorial Hermann Hospital.
After her graduation in 2010, Himali started working as an Informaticist with Apelon, Inc, an international informatics company focusing on data standardization and interoperability. In her career at Apelon so far, Himali has worked on multiple Terminology and Data Standardization projects that are funded by government agencies such as National Children Study (NCS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Veterans Affairs (VA).
