A message from Dr. Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, UTHealth President and Alkek-Williams Distinguished Chair
The Big Picture, November 22, 2011Posted: November 22, 2011
For those of us who dedicate our lives to health and healing, gratitude is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work. We see it every day when we are asked to bring help and hope to patients and populations, even—or perhaps especially—at the darkest times.
I am sure you remember the first time someone turned to you not because they knew your name, but because they knew that you were a physician, a nurse, a dentist, an educator, a scientist at the frontiers of research, or simply because you were an employee of this institution who might be able to provide answers or comfort.
At those times, we are doing more than just our jobs, we are providing an invaluable service—and we are grateful to be able to meet the needs of those who call on us. And, in whatever capacity we contribute to the strength of UTHealth and its mission, we are equally privileged to work and study beside one another.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all that you do for UTHealth. This has indeed been a challenging year, but your hard work and dedication have helped us not only to persevere, but to make this university stronger than ever. It is truly an honor to work with you every day, and to see the impact that you have on the individuals, families and communities that we serve.
I wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving, and look forward to celebrating with you throughout this holiday season.
All the best,
