Project 2B: A Focus on Setting-Specific Factors in Achieving Widespread Adoption of Clinical Decision Support

Leader: Robert A. Greenes

The goal of this project is to characterize the usage, technical, and clinical(patient-specific) factors that implementers of computer-based clinical decision support (CDS) wish to consider in order to incorporate best practice decision rules into their processes and workflow. We refer to these collectively as Setting-Specific Factors (SSFs). Using these characterizations, we aim to create an Implementers Workbench (IW) that enables a medically accepted decision rule to be systematically adapted to reflect particular SSFs, and to generate a form of the rule capable of being directly implemented at that site. Our initial focus will be on primary care and chronic disease management, with emphasis on diabetes care.
