University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center Names New COO
HOUSTON – (Jan. 9, 2013) – The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) at Houston has named Stephen Glazier the chief operating officer of The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center (UTHCPC).
The center is an inpatient psychiatric facility serving more than 7,000 Harris County children, adolescents and adults each year.
“I am pleased by the appointment of Steve Glazier to the COO position,” said Jair Soares, M.D., professor and chair of the UTHealth Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and executive director of the UTHCPC. “He brings experience from a university health care setting, a passion for serving in the public sector and he strives for excellence in customer service.”
Glazier was formerly the chief executive officer of St. Simons By-The-Sea Hospital in St. Simons Island, GA.
Lois J. Moore recently retired as chief administrator of UTHCPC after a 55-year career in health care. The Lois J. Moore Child and Adolescent Treatment Unit at the center was dedicated last November.
Glazier began his career as a recreational therapist and worked his way through the ranks as an organizational development training specialist, executive director of community mental health for a university-affiliated hospital and a CEO of a psychiatric and substance abuse care hospital.
He has experience in investor-owned and not-for-profit industries, as well as in acute, long-term acute and psychiatric facilities. He previously served as president of South Seminole Hospital, executive director of Vencor Hospitals and CEO at Charter Hospital, all located in Florida.
Glazier received a Bachelor of Science degree in recreational therapy from Georgia Southern College and a Master of Business in Administration from the University of North Florida.
