Meredith Raine – Director of Media Relations
In every area of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) - from the classrooms to the laboratories to the clinics - experts are developing innovative health solutions to treat, cure and prevent today's most common diseases. Meredith, who supervises media relations and social media activities at UTHealth, can assist reporters with news in any of the university's schools, centers or clinics. A former newspaper reporter, Meredith has been a member of the Media Relations Team since January 2001.
Deborah Mann Lake - Media Relations Manager
Deborah is your media relations contact for stories on groundbreaking research, clinical care and education at the UTHealth Medical School. She leads publicity efforts for news in pediatrics, women’s health, cardiology, neurology, geriatrics, psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Deborah, an award-winning journalist, spent two decades writing for Texas newspapers including The Houston Post and the Houston Chronicle, where she was a correspondent for its weekly "Health/Medicine" page.
Rob Cahill - Senior Media Relations Specialist
Rob is your contact for news about advances in medical research and patient care. He can arrange interviews with scientists in genetics, nanotechnology, biomedical informatics and other fields of medicine. He can also put you in touch with clinicians in the areas of surgery and internal medicine. He formerly served as a daily newspaper reporter at the Laredo News and San Antonio Light. He has a master’s degree in communications and was twice named Communicator of the Year by the Houston Press Club.
Andy Heger - Senior Communication Specialist
Andy Heger joined the UTHealth Media Relations and Communications teams in the Office of Public Affairs in August 2011. He is editor-in-chief of HealthLEADER, the university’s award-winning online wellness magazine. Andy also helps administer university social media sites, produces videos and leads publicity efforts for education and child development at the Children’s Learning Institute as well as news for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the UTHealth Medical School. In addition to several years as a news reporter, Andy has more than 10 years of experience in marketing and communications.
Edgar Veliz - Media Relations Assistant
Edgar is your contact for UTHealth’s School of Nursing and School of Dentistry. He offers a diverse understanding of the media industry. Edgar’s background includes media relations, non-profit communications and broadcast and newspaper reporting. Edgar joined the UTHealth Media Relations Team in the Office of Public Affairs in October 2013.
Hannah Rhodes - Media Relations Assistant
Hannah is your media relations contact for news at The University of Texas School of Public Health’s main campus in Houston and its regional campuses in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and Brownsville. She previously worked at a public relations firm in Washington, D.C. and has collaborated with several nonprofits in external communications. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and public policy from Emory & Henry College in Virginia.
Sheila Amiot - Executive Assistant
A valued member of the staff for more than a decade, Sheila manages the tracking and reporting of UTHealth’s media placements, serves as the liaison for vendors and assists with a variety of other Media Relations Team activities. Sheila, who has years of experience in business administration, also supports essential work in other areas of the office and coordinates community relations events for the President’s Office.
