Deans, Students Honored by Student InterCouncil
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Student InterCouncil (SIC) held its Deans Reception April 24. During the reception, graduating SIC members were inducted into the SIC Alumni Association and received stoles for graduation. SIC announced the SIC scholarship awardees, as well as, the Hitoshi Nikaidoh Leadership and Service Award and Thomas F. Burks Outstanding Leadership and Service Award winners.
SIC Scholarship Award winners included: Kari Brewer, UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), Laura Derkits, UT School of Nursing, John Griffin, UT Medical School (MS), Roxanna Irani, MS, GSBS, Felicity Kelly, MS.
Memory of SIC Leader Honored through Nikaidoh Leadership & Service Award

Zachary Wright, third year UT Medical School student and secretary of the Student InterCouncil, presents Yen-Michael Hsu, M.D. /Ph.D. student at the medical school and UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Hitoshi Nikaidoh Leadership and Service Award. This award recognizes Hsu for his commitment to service, leadership and the community. Hsu logged 1,150.5 volunteer hours between August 2004, and March 2008, with his primary community volunteer effort the Tzu-Chi Foundation, U.S.A. The Tzu-Chi Foundation is a volunteer-based organization that focuses on giving material aid and inspiring humanity in both volunteers and recipients.
Burks Award Honors Memory of the late EVP for Research and Academic Affairs

Shohrae Hajibashi, M.D. /Ph.D. student at the medical school and UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and president of the Student InterCouncil, presents Vanessa Banks–Gonzales, UT School of Nursing student, with the Thomas F.
