Research Institutes and Centers
The UT Health Science Center is comprised of six schools, four institutes and several centers that, through their work, support the university's mission of education, research and clinical care.
University Institutes:
Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM)
Through its focus on the cause of human diseases at the cellular and molecular levels, using DNA and protein technologies to clarify disease mechanisms, the IMM endeavors to design methods of rational therapy and, wherever possible, strategies for the prevention of human diseases. The IMM concentrates and collaborates in: cardiovascular disease, cell signaling, diabetes and obesity, human genetics, immunology and autoimmune diseases, molecular imaging, neurodegenerative diseases, proteomics and systems biology, stem cells, and stroke.
The Children's Learning Institute (CLI) combines data and studies from the fields of psychology, neurodevelopment, education, and child development to provide proven learning solutions derived from, and supported by, documented research. Our goal is to make sure every child is equipped to learn and able to excel. Based in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical School, CLI is recognized by the State of Texas as the State Center for Early Childhood Development.
The Institute for Health Policy (IHP), based in the School of Public Health, contributes to improving public health by developing creative ways to bridge the gap between scientific research, practical programs and policy solutions. IHP brings their technical expertise and non-partisan analysis to health policy issues, with special focus on the Texas and the Texas-Mexico border areas.
The Mental Sciences Institute is the clinical arm of the Medical School's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The institute?s teaching and research faculty are deeply involved in dissolving the false distinctions between mind and brain and are committed to finding better treatments, as well as eliminating the stigma of mental illness still prevalent in our society.
