Houston Texas Exes
Houston's local area chapter of the Texas Exes Organization, more formally known as the Ex-Student's Association of the University of Texas. There are over 45,000 Texas Exes in the Houston area and over 9,800 are active in the organization. The Houston Texas Exes provide scholarships to students attending The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and 14 scholarships annually to Houston area students attending The University of Texas at Austin, more than any other Texas Exes chapter.
UT alumnus honored for invention that revolutionized coronary artery disease treatment

HOUSTON - (Oct. 28, 2009) - Back in the 1970s, while watching an angioplasty to widen clogged coronary arteries, John Simpson, Ph.D., M.D., thought there had to be an easier way to perform the procedure.
There was, and Simpson, who trained at The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston (GSBS), invented the medical device to do it. It was the first of a series of inventions by the cardiologist that have helped many with coronary artery disease.
