Research Interests:
- Radiation dosimetry
- Scintillation dosimetry
- Respiratory correlated imaging (4D-CT)
- Image-guided radiotherapy
My current research interests are two-fold: patient dosimetry and respiratory-gated radiotherapy. In my laboratory we are investigating MOSFET- and scintillator-based radiation detectors, including their performance under different sources of radiation. We are also concentrating our efforts on designing plastic scintillation detectors for different applications, including in vivo (within a patient) and in vitro (within a phantom) dosimetry.
Secondly, I am quite interested in using respiration to improve the localization of liver tumors. We are using both 4D-CT and respiratory-gated radiotherapy to better account for the motion of liver tumors due to breathing.
A student tutorial would involve a small project related to one of these research areas. The student would have the opportunity to observe the application of such research in the clinic. Depending on the project, the student may become familiar with the operation of a linear accelerator, radiographic imaging, or radiation therapy treatment planning systems.
