My research is directed at attempting to improve the standard of care in the field of radiation therapy. Even though the field of radiation oncology has progressed extensively in the past ten years, there are several areas that still need improvement. Along with physicians and other staff in the department of Radiation Oncology, we identify and then try and resolve some of these issues.

Depending on the student’s interests, a tutorial with me would provide valuable clinical experience in various areas of radiation oncology and physics.

Projects/Techniques:

  • Bolus electron conformal therapy for the treatment of recurrent inflammatory breast cancer
  • Evaluation of rectal dose during high-dose rate intracavitary brachytherapy for cervical carcinoma
  • Displacement of periurethral stranded seeds and its dosimetric consequences in prostate brachytherapy 
  • Investigation of dose perturbations and the radiographic visibility of potential fiducials for proton radiation therapy for the prostate
  • LiF TLD-100 as a dosimeter in high energy proton beam therapy - Can it yield accurate results?
  • A volumetric trend analysis of the prostate and seminal vesicles during a course of intensity modulated radiation therapy
  • Students would learn dosimetry, radiation measurement, computation, Monte Carlo techniques, etc. while working on projects with me.
