- Stroke
- Gene expression
- Gene-environment interaction
The research in my laboratory is directed at understanding the genetic basis of cardiovascular disease using molecular genetics and statistical approaches in both animal models and humans. Current studies in my lab aim at identifying genes and gene pathways contributing to susceptibility to brain vascular injury in the stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP) and to examine whether the corresponding human genes influence cardiovascular disease and stroke risk in population cohorts.
A tutorial in my lab would provide an introduction to the concepts and approaches used to understand complex disease. Specific methods include microarray applications, DNA polymorphism detection and functional characterization, as well as statistical analysis of genetic data.
