GS21 1052 Introduction to Animal Models

This is an introductory course emphasizing basic principles of laboratory animal care and use. Focus is on basic biology of various laboratory animals, regulations that govern the use of animals in research, alleviation of pain and distress, and facility design. Topics covered include anatomy of various species, experimental surgery, environmental enrichment, pathology and diseases that may occur in laboratory animals.
