GS11 1622 Topics in Medical Genetics I
Singletary, Claire; Raia, Marianna Horz. Two semester hours. Fall annually. Prerequisite: none. Genetics and Human Disease (GS11 1013) may be taken concurrently.
This first semester course provides the students with the fundamentals of Medical Genetics. The first half of the semester focuses on the principles of Medical Genetics and are taught through combination of didactic lectures and small groups. Lecturers are the genetics faculty and other experts in their respective fields. The second half emphasizes individual topics such as chromosome abnormalities, study design, epidemiologic principles, prenatal diagnosis, and triple screen, normal development, genetic databases, neurogenetics and are taught by didactic lectures and discussions.
