In the event of an emergency, dial 9-1-1 on any telephone to reach the central dispatch for the police department, fire department and emergency medical services. 

For Urgent Non-Emergency Matters

City of Houston PoliceThe Houston Police Department works cooperatively with the public to enforce the laws, preserve the peace and provide for a safe environment.

UT Police: The University of Texas at Houston Police Department provides law enforcement and community services to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and UT Health Science Center at Houston institutions to help ensure a safe, secure and orderly environment.

To get a ride to your vehicle within the Texas Medical Center area any time after dark, or to report lost and found property, suspicious activity or criminal activity, call the UT Police non-emergency number at 713-792-2890

For Regional Emergencies and Severe Weather

Public Safety and Homeland Security - Houston:  This site provides links to the National Weather Service and Houston news stations as well as a variety of information on disaster preparedness. 

METRO Emergency Status Page:  This site broadcasts outages and changes to public transportation during severe weather and other regional emergencies.  

Houston Area Evacuation Zones Map by Zip Code:  In the event of a hurricane or other regional emergency, this map describes which areas are subject to evacuation.

For Other Assistance

2-1-1 HelplineDial 2-1-1 on any telephone to reach this local helpline, run by the United Way. The helpline provides information and referrals from a comprehensive database of health and social services.  Calls are answered in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, French, with access to a translation line with support in more than 150 additional languages.  2-1-1 always answers the call for help, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

3-1-1 Helpline:  Dial 3-1-1 on any telephone within Houston city limits to access city services from 6:00 a.m. till midnight, 7 days a week.  Or  submit your non-emergency request by email: http://hfdapp.houstontx.gov/311/index.php

Houston Area Consulates:  Houston currently has over 90 consulates, making it the third largest consular corps in the nation.  The Houston International Protocol Alliance maintains a directory of the  foreign consular offices in Houston.  To request a copy, call 713-227-3395.
