Year-end Gift-giving Information
Tax year information
Please note that the university is closed December 24-26, 2012.
Receipts reflect the tax year in which the gift was made. It is ultimately the donor’s responsibility to determine and support the date of the gift if it is used as a tax deduction. The method for determining the date of the gift varies according to the type of gift, as below:
Credit cards
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Per IRS regulations, to be receipted as a charitable gift in 2012, credit cards must be processed and the authorization received from the credit card company by close of business December 31. The best method for making a gift by credit card is to make the gift online. If the program you wish to support is not listed online, you may call the advancement office at 713-500-3200 by 11 a.m. on December 31. (The deadline for calling to make a credit card gift is 11 a.m. on December 31 to allow sufficient processing time.)
Checks
Checks that are mailed must be postmarked on or before December 31. If the gift is hand-delivered, it must be received by university personnel on or before December 31.
Make checks out to: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. For your gift to be directed to a particular program, the name of the program should be placed in the memo of the check or in an attached letter.
