Willerson Receives Top Honor for Cardiology in Mexico

The National University of Mexico awarded its top honor for Cardiology, the Ignacio Chavez Medallion, to James T. Willerson, M.D., president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, in a ceremony in Mexico City. The award, named after a prestigious cardiologist from Mexico, is given to those who have shown excellence in research and education in the field of cardiology.
Shine Named Interim Chancellor of The University of Texas System
Replaces Mark Yudof who was recently named president of University of California System

Kenneth Shine, M.D.
Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., executive vice chancellor for health affairs at The University of Texas System, was appointed interim chancellor of the UT System by Regents’ Chairman H. Scott Caven, Jr., effective May 1. Shine, a world-renowned cardiologist and physiologist with outstanding academic and medical credentials, will succeed UT System Chancellor Mark G. Yudof, who was recently named the president of the University of California system.
