UTHealth Development Board members gathered on the morning of April 1, 2014 for the spring meeting, titled “A Morning of Engagement,” held at the Medical Center Marriott. The meeting was hosted by President Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, MD and Development Board Chair Julius Glickman.
In a new format, the spring meeting gave members unique opportunities for interaction with UTHealth leaders by offering a choice of break-out sessions showcasing UTHealth researchers and practitioners who are experts in their respective fields. This new format allowed time for a richer exchange among board members while highlighting advances in science taking place at UTHealth.
Board members heard from Deborah Horn, DO, MPH, FASBP, on the topic of healthy headlines, how to interpret the various numbers affiliated with being healthy and offered three changes to improve health. Addressing a topic that affects everyone, Arthur L. Day, MD discussed whether back pain is inevitable as we age, what our treatment options are and why a healthy back is important as we age. Charles Cox, Jr., MD, and Kevin P. Lally, MD, MS, FACS offered board members an insider’s view of advances in stem cell therapies and the many conditions regenerative medicine can treat, including traumatic brain injuries.
Board members also participated in roundtable conversations with university leadership in which they provided guidance on key impact areas. Drawing the meeting to a close, President Colasurdo updated board members on university affairs and what UTHealth has planned for the future.
