UTHealth Volunteer named Outstanding Community Volunteer Fundraiser
Linda D. McReynolds, a volunteer who has led more than 50 events — founding or co-founding signature activities for at least 24 organizations and raising millions of dollars for philanthropic causes — was honored as “Outstanding Community Volunteer Fundraiser” at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on Nov. 3 at the Hilton Americas-Houston.
Mrs. McReynolds was nominated by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) for her nearly three decades of fundraising, including the chairmanship of UTHealth’s inaugural “Transformation and Hope” gala in May 2010. In only 90 days, McReynolds created a magnificent evening, leveraging the university’s new brand, presenting President Larry R. Kaiser, MD, to the Houston community and opening new avenues of philanthropy for UTHealth. The evening honored Denton Cooley, MD, and The Honorable James A. Baker III and featured a greeting from President George H.W. Bush. All three are personal friends of McReynolds and her husband, Walter G. McReynolds, MD.
This year’s National Philanthropy Day, themed, “Change the World with a Giving Heart,” was hosted by The Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Houston Chapter; Honorary Chairs Phoebe and Bobby Tudor; and Honorary Corporate Chair Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, in partnership with the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at Rice University, the Houston Business Journal, Sterling Associates, Texas Children’s Hospital and Chevron.
