Governmental Relations Hosts Legislators at UT Health Science Center
State Representative John Otto, right, and Amir Khan, MD, associate professor at UT Medical School at Houston, left, look at a light therapy unit used to treat premature infants. Otto visited the health science center on Jan. 7and toured the Medical School and Memorial Hermann-TMC Hospital. He also was updated on the latest activities from Larry R. Kaiser, MD, president, and School of Nursing Dean Patricia Starck. Following the tour and meetings, members of the Development Board and leadership from the health science center participated in a luncheon with Rep. Otto at the School of Nursing. Otto is a member of the House Appropriations Committee where he previously served as a member of the Subcommittee on Education that oversees the health science center's state appropriations.

Culberson and his entire staff from the Houston and Washington, DC, offices visited the health science center on Feb. 19. They received a tour of the Medical School and Memorial Hermann-TMC Hospital. In addition, President Larry R. Kaiser, MD, briefed Culberson and his staff on the latest activities of the health science center. Ananth Annapragada, associate professor, School of Health Information Sciences, gave a presentation to the group on the latest research he is conducting. Culberson is a long-time supporter of the health science center and represents the Texas Medical Center in the United States House of Representatives.

Olson received a tour of the Medical School and Memorial Hermann-TMC Hospital, in addition to a first-hand look at LifeFlight atop the hospital. School of Health Information Sciences Dean Jack Smith also briefed Olson on the research activities taking place at SHIS. Olson is in his first term as a member of the United States House of Representatives.
