Margolis Named Life Member of Development Board

Rodney H. Margolis has been a steadfast supporter of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for more than a decade. His dedication to the university was honored during the Feb. 4 Gratias Dono event when Development Board Chair Eugene Vaughan, along with health science center President Larry R. Kaiser, M.D., and Development Board member Ralph O’Connor, bestowed Life Member status upon Margolis.

Margolis served as chair of the Development Board from 1996-98. He also led the initial fund-raising effort to build the Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building, which houses The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases.

He joins a select few UT Health Science Center at Houston Development Board members given Life Member status during the institution’s 37-year history (see list below). O’Connor also is a Life Member.

Margolis accepted the honor, commemorated with a limited edition sculpture of a Longhorn steer, with surprise and modesty, then quickly turned the spotlight toward Kaiser, complimenting the president on his leadership.

“I expected him to be bright,” Margolis said, “but I didn’t expect him to grasp the idea of this health science center so quickly. He brings the enthusiasm and momentum to go forward and help this institution do great things.”
