"Aging in America" was the topic of discussion at UT Talks, presented by the Office of Institutional Advancement on April 22 at the River Oaks Country Club. Carmel B. Dyer, MD, professor and executive vice chairman of Internal Medicine, director, Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine, Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Chair in Gerontology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston (pictured left), spoke on the importance of geriatric training for doctors and the shortage of geriatricians as the baby boomers approach their elder years. Sharon K. Ostwald, PhD, RN, FGSA, professor, Center on Aging, Isla Carroll Turner Chair in Gerontological Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing (pictured right), spoke about staying healthy longer and how being resilient may be the most important factor.

UT School of Public Health Dean Roberta Ness, MD, MPH (left), welcomes Houston Mayor Bill White (center) to a panel discussion for the George McMillan Fleming Center for Healthcare Management held April 30. The event was part of a lecture series that brings together healthcare leaders in the Texas Medical Center to discuss issues relating to healthcare management for both students and professions in the field. Osama Mikhail, PhD, (right) is director of the center located in the School of Public Health.
