Awards and Honors
Pedro Ruiz, M.D., professor and interim chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston (MS), was appointed to the Senior Advisory Editorial Board of FOCUS: The Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry of the American Psychiatric Association.
Diane Wardell, Ph.D., associate professor of Integrative Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing (SON), was named Associate Editor of the Journal of Holistic Nursing. In addition, she was again invited to review grants for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Special Emphasis Panel. This group does not have a standing study panel, and Wardell is regularly invited to participate in these important reviews.
Frank C. Arnett, M.D., professor of Internal Medicine, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the holder of the Elizabeth Bidgood Chair in Rheumatology, director of Center of Research Translation in Scleroderma and executive director, Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, MS, was elected to Mastership of the American College of Rheumatology last November. On Jan. 4, he also gave The Dr. Morris Ziff Distinguished Lecture at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
Presentations
Thomas Caskey, M.D., Ph., director and chief executive officer of The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases, gave a presentation on stem cell research at the Naturwissenschaftliches und Medizinisches Institut an der Universität Tübingen (NMI) 4th Biomarker Workshop in Bayreuth, Germany in January.
