Gift prompted by president's speech
Though softly spoken, the words of James T. Willerson, M.D., president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, carry a lot of impact. After hearing Willerson speak at a recent President's Executive Luncheon for Development Board members and friends of the health science center, one listener was prompted to action.
"Dr. Willerson elaborated on the various types of research being done at the university and I thought that I should help," said the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. "You like to think that you're helping mankind when you donate. My wife and I had a discussion and decided that we'd like to give to UT Houston."
The donor phoned the Office of Institutional Advancement to find out more about making a gift. After learning of the various options, the donor, who had quadruple bypass surgery 22 years ago, chose to commit $50,000 to cardiology research.
