Work Begins on HSC's 2010 Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Maximilian Buja, M.D., executive vice president for Academic Affairs, conferred with Tom E. Benberg, Ph.D., chief-of-staff for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as part of the official kickoff in Atlanta for SACS reaffirmation of accreditation for the UT Health Science Center at Houston. The institution's federal funding and student aid is directly linked to a successful reaffirmation process.
Nearly 100 individuals throughout the institution already are at work collecting data that will be included in a SACS focused compliance report due September 10, 2009. Onsite reviewers from SACS will be on campus in the spring of 2010.
Also attending the meeting in Atlanta on June 9 were: Kevin Dillon, executive vice president and chief operating and financial officer; Peter Davies, M.D., Ph.D., executive vice president for Research; Bryant Boutwell, Dr.P.H., associate vice president for Accreditation and International Programs; Gary Rosenfeld, Ph.D., assistant dean for Educational Programs, Medical School; and George Stancel, dean, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, who represented both the health science center and U T M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Boutwell serves as the designated SACS liaison supporting Buja and the Office of Academic Affairs on the SACS reaffirmation process which occurs every 10 years.
