Aquarium Dedicated at Nursing School

Frank L. Cole

An avid nature photographer, Frank L. Cole, Ph.D., was asked during his retirement ceremony what type of tribute he would like to have displayed in his honor at The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston. Cole chose an aquarium. His wish was fulfilled Feb. 23 when a tropical aquarium valued at $15,000 was dedicated in memory of the former assistant dean and chair of the Department of Acute and Continuing Care. The aquarium, located in the first floor lobby of the School of Nursing and Student Community Center, was donated by Mike Senske, pictured, general manager of the Aquarium Design Group.

A portrait painting of Cole, commissioned by Dean Patricia Starck, D.S.N., also is on display at the school. Cole and colleague Elda Ramirez, Ph.D., conceptualized, developed and implemented the Emergency Care Graduate Nursing Program at the UT School of Nursing in 1994. Cole died of esophageal cancer in 2006.
