Media Spotlight

During March 2007, 124 media placements about The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston were recorded. The following is a sample of those media placements.

Led by Meredith Raine, the Media Relations team supported the Medical School's annual Match Day with stories that reported on the event and/or interviewed students, including: 3/15 coverage by KTRK-TV, KRIV-TV, KHOU-TV, KXLN-TV (Univision); and stories in the Houston Chronicle (3/16), Texas Medical Center News (4/1), Deer Park Progress (3/18), Pasadena Citizen (3/18), 1960 Cy-Fair Sun (3/21) and This Week for the Heights/Neartown and Bellaire/West University communities (3/22).

The Dental Branch's Dr. Charles Streckfus appeared live to talk about his research on a saliva test for cancer, KUOW-FM (National Public Radio affiliate for Seattle, Wash.), 3/30.

A story written and pitched by Rob Cahill about the tireless volunteer efforts of Long-Term Care Ombudsman Jeanette Getz, age 71, appeared: on KHOU-TV's "11 News at 5 PM" (3/9) and KTRK-TV's "Eyewitness News at 4 PM" (3/29); also ran on the front page of the Texas Medical Center News (April 1 "Volunteers" special issue), in Village News/Southwest News (3/13), The Lake Houston Sentinel (3/15) and in the Houston Chronicle's Alief/Southwest, Heights/Neartown and Bellaire/West University "This Week" community news sections (3/29).

Deborah Mann Lake worked with the Medical School and several third parties to promote country music star Clay Walker's $100,000 gift for multiple sclerosis research with stories on KHOU-TV's "11 News At 6 PM" (3/2) and KRIV-TV Fox 26 (3/2-3/3), and in the Houston Chronicle (3/4), El Paso Times (3/12 ), Village News/Southwest News (3/13) and Houston Chronicle's Alief/Southwest and Heights/ Neartown "This Week" community news sections (3/8). A color photo with cutline also ran on the front page of the Texas Medical Center News (3/15).
