The University of Texas Medical School does not require students to have disability insurance, but strongly recommends that students consider whether they should purchase their own coverage.

*Eligibility Restrictions:

  • As a 3rd and 4th year Medical or Dental Student at University of Texas Houston, you are eligible to purchase an individual disability income policy, at a discounted premium. These policies are non-cancelable and guaranteed renewable.
  • While you area student, the maximum benefit is $2500/month. Also, you have the opportunity to increase the benefit, regardless of your then current health status, as you move into the residency program and private practice.
  • The policy covers you in your particular medical specialty, which means that if you are unable to perform the duties of your specialty, you will receive the benefit even if you are employed elsewhere.
  • You or a family member can pay the cost for this valuable protection.
