Houston Gerontological Society Honors Three Consortium on Aging Members
In Spring 2012, the Houston Gerontological Society honored three Consortium on Aging members at a special event “Honoring the Past - Bridging the Future.”
Honored as a Pioneer in geriatrics and gerontology was Cheves M. Smythe, MD who, although retired from the faculty of UTHealth Medical School, is still actively involved in the practice of geriatric medicine.
Honored as Current Leaders who will become the next generation of pioneers were Carmel B. Dyer, MD and Vaunette Fay, PhD, RNC, FNP, GNP. Dr. Dyer is the Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Chair in Gerontology and Director of the Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at UTHealth Medical School and the Executive Director of the Consortium on Aging. Dr. Fay is Professor of Clinical Nursing and head of the Division of Gerontology at the UTHealth School of Nursing. She is also Associate Director for Education at the Center on Aging at the School of Nursing.
